100 Book Challenge

Updated: Jan 17, 2020

In 2019, I decided to challenge myself to read more. In college, I never had the time to read for pleasure and now that I graduated and am not bombarded with 100 pages of academic reading each night, I really wanted to rekindle my passion for reading. I read over one hundred books during 2019. Here are my top 5 books from this past year!

1. The Alice Network. This book was absolutely incredible. It told the story of two female spies during WW2. They wove together so seamlessly and effortlessly. It was such a beautifully written book.

2. Homegoing. I liked this book because it did not follow a conventional plot line. It followed the family of two sisters, with each chapter being a different person. This was also the first book I've read that followed Asante history, which I enjoyed learning about.

3. Girls Burn Brighter. This book resonated with me so much because I have two sisters who I would do anything for. Although the main characters are not sisters, they are best friends who cross the world to find each other.

4. A Thousand Splendid Suns. Khaled Hosseini is my favorite author so I had to reread this one.

5. The Linnet Bird. Honestly, I wasn't sure about this book until a few weeks after I had finished it. The writing style took a while to get used to but I loved the overarching theme of "you can get over anything."

I learned a lot from reading 100 books this year. Because I mostly stick to fiction I've made it a goal to incorporate more non-fiction into my list of 100 books for 2020.

Kindly, Kaveri
