Meet Laila!

I've wanted a dog for the majority of my life. When I was 10, I made a powerpoint of reasons why my family should get a dog. I included graphics and did research on what types of breeds would be best suited for our family (pretty sophisticated for a 10 year old if I may say so myself). I presented the powerpoint in front of my family but it ended up being a "no" and I was heartbroken. Still, the idea never left my mind, and I always knew that at some point in my life, I would have a furfriend.

Fast forward 12 years, I'm about to graduate college. I'm moving to a new city, where I barely know anybody. I'm doing an part-time internship, so I know I will have plenty of time to spare. With moving to a new city comes the inevitable loneliness. I decided it was the perfect time for me to get a puppy.

September 14, 2019. The day I got to pick up my sweet baby girl.

Laila is a first generation cockapoo (half cocker spaniel, half poodle). I chose this breed because both cocker spaniels and poodles are incredibly intelligent, making them easy to train. They are also ridiculously loyal and will never want to leave your side. They get along well with other people and other dogs. I wanted a dog that would be my best friend and would love spending time with me whether it was being a couch potato all day or exploring different parts of Chicago. A cockapoo fit the description. Plus, they are so so so cute and soft.

As I'm writing this, it has been over 4 months since I picked her up. It definitely has not been all rainbows and sunshine though. There have been some really hard days where I wonder "Why did I do this to myself?" especially when she was not fully potty trained and peeing all over the place or when she was teething and biting me. But taking a step back and realizing all of the amazing things Laila has done for me, I know I made the right choice. Since getting Laila, I have become more confident. I have become less stressed (even though right now there are many stress-causing issues happening in my life), less anxious, and less lonely.

Now, Laila is potty trained, she has stopped teething, and she got spayed (which made her a lot more calm). It's been a crazy 4 months with her, but I would not have it any other way!
